Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy, 2018
This is a darker wine, but despite this, is still fairly easy drinking with notes of violet, cassis, juicy dark plums, and blackberries with a slight hint of thyme. As a fuller wine, it has the body and weight to stand up to bigger, meatier dishes while still having some lovely acidity and juiciness. The wine’s tannins are on the softer side though, so it could also easily work with lighter dishes, especially tomato based pasta sauces.
